Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria, in partnership with crowdfunding platform Crowdr, has launched the One Million Voters Campaign, a voter mobilisation and fundraising initiative aimed at registering one million eligible Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The campaign was unveiled as Nigeria commemorates the 33rd anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, widely regarded as a landmark in the country’s democratic history.

Organisers said the initiative seeks to tackle voter apathy and increase citizens participation in the electoral process.

According to EiE Nigeria, the campaign comes at a critical time for the country’s democracy, noting that voter turnout in the 2023 general elections was less than 27 per cent, leaving the majority of eligible voters outside the decision making process.

The organisation said many eligible Nigerians were either not registered to vote, had not collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or lacked the information and support needed to participate effectively in elections.

Through the initiative, EiE plans to mobilise citizens to register, collect their PVCs, access credible voter information, and actively engage in shaping Nigeria’s democratic future. Funds raised through Crowdr will support voter registration mobilisation, PVC collection drives, civic education programmes, youth outreach activities, and voter protection efforts across Southwest Nigeria.

The campaign will officially commence on June 12 with voter registration and civic engagement activities at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU). The programme is being implemented in collaboration with Civic Hive, LearnPolitics, ALX and The Future Project.

The organisers said the university activations would combine voter registration support, civic education, peer-to-peer mobilisation, and democratic engagement activities designed to encourage young Nigerians to move from political awareness to active civic participation.

Executive Director of EiE Nigeria, Ufuoma Nnamdi-Udeh, described June 12 as a reminder of the importance of citizen participation in sustaining democracy.

“June 12 is not just a date in our history; it is a reminder that democracy survives when citizens participate. As we look toward 2027, we are concerned by the growing disconnect between political awareness and civic action. Too many young Nigerians are frustrated with the state of the country but remain outside the democratic process” she said.

Nnamdi-Udeh stated that the campaign will create practical pathways for participation. “Our goal is simple: to ensure that more Nigerians are equipped and ready to shape the future of their country,” she added.

EiE also announced that Democracy Day activities would continue on June 13 with a civic gathering bringing together young Nigerians, creatives, influencers, student leaders, community organisers, media practitioners and cultural figures for conversations, film screenings, storytelling sessions and discussions on democracy and the 2027 elections.

Speaking on the significance of the campaign, EiE Nigeria’s Senior Media Associate, Akindeji Aromaye, noted that citizen participation would play a decisive role in determining the future of the country’s democracy.

“The future of Nigeria’s democracy will not be determined only by candidates or political parties. It will be determined by whether citizens show up. In 2023, millions of eligible Nigerians were absent from the process. Through the One Million Voters Campaign, we want to change that story,” he said.

Aromaye noted that the June 13 gathering would help young Nigerians connect civic participation with their everyday lives and understand that democracy is a shared responsibility.

He added that the campaign ultimately seeks to encourage Nigerians at home and abroad to invest directly in strengthening democratic participation and ensuring more citizens have a voice in shaping the nation’s future.
