The Disability and Equality Initiative Nigeria (DEIN) has commenced its 2nd Digital Training programme aimed at empowering young adults with Down Syndrome through digital inclusion and media literacy. The four-day training, which began on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Down Syndrome Foundation Centre in Lagos, was designed to empower participants through digital inclusion.
According to the organiser, freelance journalist Toheeb Babalola, the theme of this year’s training is “Empowering Adults with Down Syndrome through Digital Inclusion.”

Participants received training in key areas including Computer Basics and Desktop Publishing, Smartphone Skills and Content Creation, as well as Fact-Checking and Media Literacy. The training will also extend to in-house staff of the Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria to ensure sustainability.
DEIN is an initiative dedicated to increasing digital confidence among persons with intellectual disabilities in Nigeria, particularly those with Autism and Down Syndrome. The organisation seeks to improve communication skills, enhance understanding of misinformation, and promote creative expression through digital tools.

Born out of a strong desire to support persons with special needs, DEIN aims to help them empower themselves, discover their potential, and gain greater acceptance in society.
The project is being implemented in partnership with the Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria. Organisers are calling for collaboration and sponsorship from international bodies and individuals to enable the programme to reach other states in the South West region.
