A 38-year-old bricklayer, Olusola Busayo, has been remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre over the alleged rape of a 25-year-old physically challenged woman in Ilesha, Osun State.

Busayo was arraigned before an Osun State Magistrate’s Court on a one-count charge bordering on rape.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Adejola Adesuyi, the alleged offence was committed on January 13, 2026, at Peace Highland Community, Ilesha.

Adesuyi told the court that the defendant, who worked as a bricklayer for the victim’s family, allegedly took advantage of the victim’s condition while her elder sister was asleep and the victim was washing clothes within the compound.

The prosecutor said the defendant allegedly grabbed the victim, took her through a window into an uncompleted building, assaulted her, and raped her.

The offence, according to the prosecution, is contrary to Section 357 and punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2022.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel to the defendant, K.A. Adepoju, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms, arguing that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty and that investigations were still ongoing.

The police prosecutor opposed the bail application, stating that granting bail could further traumatise the victim. He told the court that seeing the defendant could cause emotional distress for the victim, noting that she is a vulnerable person. In her ruling, the presiding Magistrate, O.A. Daramola, denied the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ilesha Correctional Centre.

The case was adjourned until February 27, 2026, for further hearing.
