Orodata Science, in collaboration with the Africa Data Hub (ADH), has launched the Pan-African Newsroom AI Governance Network, an initiative designed to promote ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption across media organisations on the continent.
The network seeks to develop a robust AI Governance Framework that will guide responsible usage of AI in journalism, safeguard editorial integrity and strengthen public trust in news systems.
According to the team, the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s National AI Strategy and upholds the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) principle of Leaving No One Behind. They noted that while AI offers efficiency and new possibilities for storytelling, it also presents ethical, operational and transparency challenges that must be addressed early.
Through the Network, clear guidelines will be created for integrating AI into editorial workflows, alongside newsroom training on ethical deployment and inclusive governance structures that reflect diverse stakeholder input.
The organisers are encouraging participation from AI experts, journalists, editors, media executives and organisations across Africa, who can share feedback and insights by scanning the QR code featured on the campaign flyer.
A virtual workshop to further shape the governance framework will be held on December 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Contributors will be acknowledged in the published framework and gain future access to capacity-building programmes, review processes and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
