The SAFE Girls Club, an initiative of Goal Women Africa, has been making impactful strides in creating safe and empowering environments for young girls in schools. Since its launch earlier this year, the initiative has addressed critical challenges faced by girls, ranging from harassment to lack of access to modern educational tools.
On May 28, 2024, the SAFE Girls Club was officially launched at Oluyoro Girls Grammar School, marking a significant milestone in promoting girls’ safety and education. The event registered 305 girls into the club, with parental consent ensuring active family support.
In a significant move to support the academic ability of girls, the initiative donated a collection of girl-centered literature to the school, setting the foundation for a new library.
On October 23, 2024, the club partnered with Teens Ai and Cardify Africa to launch the tech outreach program at Oluyoro Girls Grammar School. The event introduced 107 girls to essential tech skills, despite the school’s lack of a computer lab.
These partnerships aim to integrate extra-curricular activities, particularly in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), into the school’s curriculum. This collaborative effort culminated in an impactful outreach event on October 23, 2024.
The outreach program officially launched the Tech Integration initiative, addressing the critical lack of ICT resources, such as computer labs, in the school. Despite these limitations, the program succeeded in registering the participation of 107 girls, who were eager to gain basic knowledge of computer learning.
During the event, the girls received oral lessons on various tech skills, including digital marketing, coding, and content writing.
Mrs. Abisola Aderemi, Head of Customer Service at Cardify Africa, led the session covering digital marketing, coding, and content creation.
Mrs. Aderemi’s presentation highlighted opportunities in the tech industry, including high-earning careers in STEM, inspiring the girls to embrace these fields regardless of their academic backgrounds.
Building on its successes, SAFE Girls Club is preparing for a tech hackathon in January 2025, organized in collaboration with Teens Ai. This event will further develop the girls’ tech skills and provide them with hands-on experience.
