The Enugu State chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) has expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his pledge to establish the Enugu State Disability Commission by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

Governor Mbah had on Saturday announced the establishment of the disability commission after the Chairman of JONAPWD Enugu, Comrade Onyebuchi Mba, highlighted concerns about the implementation of the 2023 Enugu State Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities Prohibition Law.

In a press release signed by Comrade Mba, he described the Governor’s declaration as a landmark achievement in the push for inclusivity and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in the state.

“We commend Governor Mbah for his dedication to inclusive governance and the welfare of persons with disabilities,” he added.

He also hailed the Governor’s support for the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated through the Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development.

This, they noted, emphasised the Governor’s innovative leadership and his commitment to the “Tomorrow is Here” ideology driving progress in Enugu State.

“This is unprecedented and testament to Governor Peter Mba’s disruptive innovation policy in governance with tomorrow is here ideology in Enugu State.

“Governor Mbah has demonstrated that he is a true father and disability-friendly leader, committed to building a better future for everyone in Enugu State,” Comrade Mba said.

JONAPWD Enugu urged members of the disability community to remain united and resilient in their quest for sustainable progress while continuing to pray for Governor Mbah and other leaders committed to creating a more inclusive Enugu State.

The association also extended special appreciation to Hon. Ngozi Enih, Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, for her tireless efforts in advocating for the rights and welfare of the disability community since assuming office.
