A delegation from the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has visited the Abia State Government to promote the new project on mitigating the effects of climate change on persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The CCD representatives met with Hon. David Obinna Anyaele, the Special Adviser to the Governor on PWDs in Abia State.
In his remarks, Hon. Anyaele expressed excitement over the project, choosing Abia and CCD’s commitment to evidence-based policy advice.
He explained the State’s efforts under the Governor’s directives to establish a climate change department and assess at-risk areas.
The adviser called for further assistance from donors and partners to match the government’s efforts. He pledged full collaboration with CCD moving forward.
CCD outlined the 1-year project funded by Disability Rights Fund titled “Promoting disability-inclusive adaptation and mitigation in Abia State.”
Senior Program Officer, CCD Damian Ivom explained that “the goal of the project is to understand and reduce the disproportionate climate change hardships facing disabled citizens.
“The project includes conducting surveys, collaborating with agencies and NGOs, raising public awareness, and producing a report detailing recommendations for the State,” he added.
