Converting plastic bottles into interlocking for roads and roof tiles have been identified as a major way to address the environmental harzards that could be created by the increasing rate in the use of plastic bottles.
Also recommended in combating climate change in Nigeria was, enhancing Electric mobility against petrol cars and inventing mini recycling machines for communities and homes.
The recommendations were given by the representatives from Oyo State at the Youth Climate Incubation Hub South West Zone which held in ibadan, Oyo State. The Incubation Hub gathered youths across South West zone with the aim of pitching relevant and laudable ideas to help in combating Climate Change in Nigeria.
The hub was sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Environment in partnership with United Nations Development Programme and facilitated by TalentPlus Resources International.
Lagos State, while setting the pace in the presentation of ideas, pitched the promotion of renewable energy in Nigeria by recycling Bio waste into Bio Fuel and Gas, creating Solar Panel & System for Homes, embracing Bio degradable materials for food and beverage consumption.
Lagos also recommended that the Government should scale recycling business Nationally.
Ondo state profer solutions through Eco-Education for Climate sustainability, Eco-Community; waste management. Also recommended was the Bamboo project where at least one Bamboo would be planted in different compounds.
Osun state pitched on Waste management through Plogging an initiative involve in converting plastic bottles into eco-friendly products. Another existing idea presented was, ‘Igiwulo project’, where trees are plant in schools through inter schools competitions.
The Igiwulo project was said to have has so far engaged approximately 800 students across 20 schools in 3 LGA’S in Osun.
Ogun state presented solutions by using creative context such as gravity art, animation and cartoons at respective locations in other to promote environmental sensitization.
The team from Ogun also suggested the creation of App to aid Waste management through recycling, reduction of Car Emission through Car pulling, producing Eco-friendly Biomas Fuel in place of Charcoal and producing Edible Liquid water as an alternative to plastic bottles.
Ekiti state projected ideas on recycling plastics to make Lumbers for construction and averting deforestation, recycling Papers Mil, alternative to Fossil Fuel through Cassava-Bio Fuel Crop.
Representatives from Ekiti also beckon on government to include Climate Science into Schools’ Curriculum and also proposed the creation of “Green Girls Club” in schools.
Muyiwa Odele of the UNDP commended the participants for the innovative ideas shared and assured them of possible collaborations.
All ideas pitched were harmonised and a Communique was developed.
