The Lagos State Government has partnered with the Sustainable Education and Enterprise Development (SEED) Foundation to train and equip one million teachers with modern teaching techniques in a bid to address the decline in students’ performances caused by poor teaching methods.
The program is designed to give participants relevant skills to boost their competency and professionalism to deliver quality teaching.
The program is part of the measures taken by the Lagos State Government to achieve the goals outlined in the Education and Technology Pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Development Agenda.
The training will expose teachers to various online courses and foreign teaching methods to help them stay up-to-date with their knowledge and hone their skills, resulting in effective instruction in the classroom.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Education, Barrister Tokunbo Wahab, said the partnership with the SEED Foundation would produce the desired result by assisting institutions in the state to turn out teachers who are not only qualified for the job but also have the interest of the profession at heart.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASUED, Professor Bilkis Lafiaji-Okunneye, noted that the partnership is one of the strategies of the present administration to professionalize teaching, which will enhance improved performance among teachers.
The Executive Director of SEED Care and Support Foundation, Olanrewaju Oniyitan, stressed the importance of training and re-training of teachers as a necessary prerequisite for improvement.
The program is a testament to the Lagos State Government’s commitment to creating a supportive environment and incentives that make teaching one of the State’s most lucrative professions.
