In line with its effort to lessen the burden of unemployment in Nigeria JAKIN, a Non-Governmental Organization graduated out-of-school indigent Youth trained in different vocational skills for three months in Lagos.
Sponsored by Aspire Coronation Trust Foundation, the training which was held over three months focused on empowering out-of-school Nigerian youths with basic business management principles and vocational skills including bag making, hair braiding, bead making, Ankara craft and makeup.
Designed to empower out-of-school indigent youths, the initiative which was established in 2013 has assisted many youths to acquire skills that would be of immense benefit to them through life.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony for the 2022/2023 edition of the project that took place at ECWA multipurpose hall, Montgomery road, Yaba, Lagos, the CEO of JAKIN NGO, Mrs Adebiyi Olubukola popularly called ‘Mummy Jakin’ detailed that the initiative had empowered 940 indigent youths.
“940 indigent out-of-school youths have benefited from Fresh Foundation Project (FFP). since inception, the project beneficiaries have been caught across all major low-income or slum areas in Mainland, Somolu, Surulere, Mushin and Ajeromi LGAs of Lagos State,” she said.
According to Mrs Adebiyi, about 106 beneficiaries of the initiative’s beneficiaries have since launched their own enterprises, with 72 others gaining employment with the certificate provided at the training.
She further detailed that about 99 other beneficiaries of the initiative had gained admission to various higher institutions of learning.
Speaking to BONews after the event one of the beneficiaries of the initiative thanked the NGO for the priceless opportunity.
“I want to thank mummy Jakin for this opportunity, I’ll be able to support my family with what I learnt here,” she said.
The NGO boss further thanked sponsors for their continued partnership despite the harsh economic challenges facing the country.
