Toun Okewale-Sonaiya, the Chief Executive Officer of Women Radio has affirmed that she would continue to support media reports that would make a positive impact on women.
Okewale-Sonaiya made this known while giving her remarks at the end of the one-week intensive training on investigative journalism from the woman angle. The training was executed by the Women Radio Academy and the Bayero University of Kano, with support from MacArthur Foundation.
Okewale-Sonaiya charged the female journalists that have been trained to utilize the opportunity to produce stories that would expose the challenges affecting women.
She said, “Any story that is worth telling, whether radio, print or TV, I will support you. No matter what it cost, I will put money down for it, as long as it’s a story that is going to make an impact on women.”
While addressing the participants, Dr. kole Shettima, Country Director of MacArthur Foundation, commended Women Radio for its commitment to reporting women, and for producing female investigative journalists in Nigeria.
Dr Shettima said he’s certain that the trained female investigative journalists would make exploit and advance women’s issues in Nigeria and beyond.
One of the participants who shared her experience and impact of the training, Damilola Amoo said “the training is fully packed and the facilitators took us through all the process of becoming investigative journalists.”
She affirmed it was an enlightening session.
Some of the Facilitators at the one-week intensive training are Deji Bademosi, Founder of TV360 Nigeria, Dr. Suleiman Yar’Adua and Dr. Ruqayyah Aliyu of Bayero University Kano, Dr. Raheemat Adeniran of Lagos State University, Dr. Adma Adamu of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Motunrayo Alaka of Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative journalism.
Others are: Juliana Francis of Eagle Online, Fisayo Soyombo of Foundation for Investigative Journalism; Mr. lanre Arogundade of International Press Centre, Dr. Oludare Ogunyombo of Caleb University, Mohammed Haruna of Wikki Times, Adenike Aloba of Dataphyte among others.
