JAKIN NGO, a Non-Governmental Organisation, has gifted school uniforms, school bags, exercise books and other schooling items to 1000 orphans and vulnerable school children from across 85 government public schools in Lagos, as schools resume a fresh academic session.
The learning equipment were given to the children at the 12th edition of the NGO’s annual Dress a Child For School Project to celebrate the 2021 literacy Day.
Themed: “Right to Literacy in times of COVID-19”, the project was geared towards ensuring that orphans and vulnerable children who lack the required amenities for resumptions are empowered to resume the new academic session with necessary schooling items.
The project cuts across 37 Primary schools, 30 Junior and 18 Senior secondary schools across Lagos state.
Since the inception of the project in 2010, over 4,750 orphans and vulnerable children in Lagos state has benefited from the project, receiving basic school items such as new school uniforms, school bags, books amongst other necessities for the resumption of new academic session.
Other items distributed to the students in the cause of the projects are mathematical sets, a pair of school sandals and a set of stationary.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Mrs. Olubukola Adebiyi , President, JAKIN N.G.O who thanked all philanthropists and organizations that supported the project wished all students a COVID-19 free year as they gear up for the new academic session.
“I sincerely appreciate all the individuals, organisations, group, and faith base organisations that donated to make this grand project possible despite the economic downturn,” she said.
Mrs. Adebiyi commended Falcon Corporation, Be Happy Group, Covenant Apostolic Church USA Mariteam and Power of a thousand for supporting the project.
